Project Save The Earth: Public Service Announcements (Spanish)

Project Save The Earth is a collaboration between art, math, English, physics, and Spanish, focused around the challenge of saving the planet from environmental catastrophe. The project culminated in a shared exhibition, but each class created its own final products (you can see the project sheet here). This page focuses on Spanish, where students focused on providing advice for lowering your environmental impact.

Final Product: a video Public Service Announcement, in Spanish, to highlight the importance of the Three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) to a Spanish-speaking audience.

Core Practice 1: Care

Students learned about the different issue associated with instituting recycling programs within Hispanic communities by reading several online articles and looking through several infographics. Afterwards, students brain-stormed possible solutions to those issues within individual project groups.

Students began to develop their possible solutions to the overall driving question by pre-writing a script to their PSA, going through the revision process, then beginning to practice their lines for their final product; the informal PSA in the target language of Spanish.

Students reviewed the assessment rubric in order to know exactly what they would be graded on. They then began to record their PSA’s on their cellphones within groups. They recorded their PSAs in and around school as well as outside of school on their own time.

After the students finished recording their PSA’s, they began to edit their videos and submit them to the teacher. Students then showed their group PSAs to one another and gave each other “warm/cool” feedback based on a standard practice that they are used to doing.
